Anyone in E Tennessee need a good rooster?
I have a big beautiful golden rooster to go to a good home. This guy is about two years old and has been servicing my flock regularly. He is not a pure breed rooster, he came from a flock that was comprised of Buff Orpingtons and Red Ameraucanas. I'd hate to see him go to the cook pot. Email me and I will send you my telephone number. BTW he's free.

Just out of curiosity why are you parting ways with your rooster?
Who is going to service your flock? [no I'm not applying for the job:confused_m:] |

Why is it that a thread about one rooster gives me hope for mankind?

Re: Anyone in E Tennessee need a good rooster?
I didn't think you needed roosters to get eggs. Perhaps you can clue me in.
Do you have some hens for breeding and others for laying? Does it ruin a layer to let her hatch her young? Can you eat fertilized eggs as well as unfertilized? |
Re: Anyone in E Tennessee need a good rooster?
A rooster is sitting on the diagonal roof of mtnman's house.
If it lays an egg and it rolls to the right (westward), it lands in Bob's property. But if it rolls to the left (eastward), it will be on mtnman's property. If it goes eastward who gets to keep the egg? .................................................o h, wait a minute:bear_tongue: |

It doesn't ruin a laying hen to let her hatch a clutch of eggs, however she does stop laying while she is brooding and rearing her young. Since rearing chicks is a bit of a hassle we have marked our successful chick-rearing hens with leg bands. 'Big Mama' is a black australorp who goes broody, and at the appropriate time we plant mail-order chicks under her. She can raise 20 chicks at a time. Since I don't generally try to breed my chickens (it's extra work) I don't know about separating the layers and breeders. I know it would be pretty challenging to keep track of the mother's bloodline though, as all the eggs look pretty much the same. |
Re: Anyone in E Tennessee need a good rooster?
We have bout six or seven roosters (15 hens)
They are starting to come of age and will wear out the hens if don't get rid of them soon but they don't seem to fight really There is One, (the oldest and their dad) that is clearly the Boss We let a few hens hatch a brood or two each summer separate from the rest of the chickens and have quite the mix going on. |

Re: Anyone in E Tennessee need a good rooster?
:offtopic: ...I'm sorry I had a cockatiel parrot who bonded to me, she would lay 5-6 eggs on the bottom of her cage, sit 21 days then start all over again. My vet tried everything possible short of a hysterectomy ($2500) after approx.300 eggs I had to give her away for her healths sake...lol
